Hi everyone,

How do you keep a record of your coin collection? Or don't you? I keep a record of my half penny collection on an Excel database which I find very useful because you can keep a very detailed record of the coin.

I use Excel too, but i do sometimes put it onto a table set out on Front page. Excel is a very useful package for keeping an accurate record.

I never used to bother, then i started keeping a handwritten record, followed by an excel one which got deleted during reboot, but was hopelessly out of date at the time.

I then made a new one on Word, a few weeks ago after selling most things off, i went back to excel.

how i lay my Excel sheet out is:

eg:

Date • Picture • Description • Price Paid • Valued at • Date Purchased

1937 • .......... • Bla, Bla, Bla • £1.25...... • £6.......... • 1-1-04

................................................................................

..............................

etc...

Peck number. Even though I don't have a copy, I saw a copy today at the coin fair but I decided that I didn't really need it yet.

E.g

John Penny| .925 Ag| JN1D | Class 5C | 1210-1216 | Canterbury | Simon | F | Hoard find some dirt in fields | £40-5

OR

Charles II Farthing | Sn | C2FA | (Class/type blank) | 1684 | (mint blank) | (moneyor blank) | AVF | Some edge corrosion

I also used to have a handwritten record like Sylvester but then transferred it to Excel. Mines set out as

Monarch ¦ Date ¦ Grade ¦ Denomination ¦ Value ¦ Seller details

I should really put in price paid but I have that still on a handwritten piece of paper!

I bought a disc from Ebay entitled 321 Collect - Collectibles

Managment Software. This allows you to input info such as how much you paid , from whom , book value , Grade, description and insert photo and it is a great bit of kit, plus it can be used for whatever you collect .
