Found this site not that long ago and though I may as well join and say hello

Aside from my own modest collection of modern issues I have a small number of earlier UK coins that I recently inherited on the demise of my father and as they are outside my normal area of collecting thought someone might be able to say if there is anything worth me looking more closely at amongst them (unlikely I imagine but you never know lol).

Anyways here's a quick list if I may be so bold:

Pennies: 1899, 1900(x2), 1901, 1906, 1907, 1913, 1917, 1919, 1936(x3), 1961, 1962, 1967(x4)

Ha'pennies: 1917, 1939, 1940, 1944, 1950, 1962, 1963, 1965(x3)

Farthings: 1912, 1926, 1939, 1945

Crowns: 1937

Half-crowns: 1931, 1939, 1951, 1960

Florins: 1933

Shillings: 1935, 1954, 1966

Sixpences: 1933, 1945, 1961, 1967

Threepences: 1900, 1936, 1938, 1941, 1955, 1961, 1967(x2)

Some are in quite poor condition, especially some of the pennies, but others appear in quite reasonable condition for circulated coins.

I think as you have already guessed, you will not be able to retire on whatever these will fetch. A few pointers though.

1) Check the 1919 penny for tiny letters (either 'H' or 'KN') to the left of the date. In normal circulated condition this will give it a (small) value whereas the standard Royal Mint version is worth no more than its metal content;

2) The 1937 crown is likely to be by far the most valuable of this little lot but even then is only likely to be worth a tenner or so;

3) Pre-1947 silver is actually 50% silver and can be sold for scrap on e-bay or wherever if not in collectable condition. Pre-1920 silver is 92.5% fine but you only have 3d worth of that which really won't amount to a lot...

4) The rest is probably valueless.

I'm glad there's nothing worth much in there (even the 1919 penny doesn't have the lettering lol) as I can just keep them as a memento of my father without particularly needing to worry how I store them
