Russ777 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Before I post the picture I would like to know are there any recorded varieties for the KGVI 1944 Penny??I have a one penny and the Y is imprinted below like a shadow as if impressed into the metal rather than a doubling of the Y. Just below the Y of pennyYou can also see some of the dots of the outer penny similarly impressed. No other letters or features seem doubled and impressed.Could this just be the case of another Penny being on top the coin in production or fowl play??? If anyone has seen this before (shadowing of lettering impressed into the coin) then that will clear this up.Thanks Russ777 Quote
Russ777 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Just thought I would add a photo now we have daylight. You can see the Y and edge of another coin imprinted into the edge. Could this be a manufacturing (therefore interesting) or just another coin being pressed into this one??? I have never seen it before and I have seen 100s of these pennies.Maybe someone else has seen it before???Will add to another secion to try and get an answerThanks Russ 777 Quote

azda Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Hi Russ, it could well be a brockage of some sorts, can definately see the Y underneath the last N in Penny. An interesting one and probably something that variety collectors might/would collect.Anything on the OBV? Edited October 15, 2010 by azda Quote
Russ777 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Thanks azda what should I be looking out for???The image does seem quite worn and less crisp than another 1944 I haveMaybe I will post a few good pics. I would probably be something I would be interested in selling. Could it have happened it manufacturing??? You can also see the edge of another coin or die?I am, going to have a look at the OBV and post couple pics there is a gash to the edge OBV ehich could be to do with it? Thanks Russell Quote
