Guest xxx213 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 We have recently inherited, what we believe, is an 'Gold Half Sovereign 1871 Young Head Shield Reverse', it looks to be graded EF/UNC. We are inerested in that it appears to have a die number of 11. However there does not seem to be a die listing of 11 in some of the sources i have found. What does this mean in coin collecting terms, is this a rarity? Does it add anything to the value.RegardsRob... Quote

The total absence of one (where there should be one) certainly would be noteworthy and rare, but very few people are concerned about the particular die number.But, you need to be careful as gold always throws up fakes. Perhaps an unrecorded die number should alert you, or at least make you cautious. Quote
