Mother of Pearl Coin?

Hi, I have had this MoP 'coin' in my collection for 40 years or more, and have always wondered what it is, if indeed it is a coin at all.

It is obviously hand engraved because there are irregularities.

I would very much appreciate it if anyone here could shed some light on it.

It is likely from Thailand and is more of a counter for gaming and not a coin. Your example is a bit unusual for the round shape and has some detail to the carving on it.
