recent buy for £2.75 couln't pass it up.

my research has took me to 1708 (can JUST make out the 8) 2nd Bust E mark, and 6 strings on harp.

firstly, i need more information on the paritcular type, and secondly, 6 and 7 string harps? are these specfic dates or are there both types for all dates

And don't overlook the 'E' for Edinburgh mint mark under the bust!

yea thats a nice thing, guessing its reasonably scarse then

Well, you have a choice of three possibilities, all second bust.

1) E below bust (the middle one for rarity)

2) E * below bust (the least rare)

3) E * below bust "local dies" (the rarest)

I believe I can just make out the faint traces of the * to the right of the E. Which means it's either the commonest one or the rarest one. Statistics will tell you that wishful thinking is the least likely outcome! - I'm betting it's the commonest, S3609.

how can you tell the 2 dies?

There's a listing here : http://www.treasurerealm.com/coinpapers/en.../Shil_Anne.html

Unfortunately, there is no image.

There's also a listing here :

Sadly, their images haven't loaded, just the dreaded blue ?
