Guest chris6645 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/...+-00656931.htmlHi, ive got quite a few old coins, i wouldnt really call myself a collector most of them i was given as a kid by grandparents ect others i found while doing bits and dabs of metal detecting. None of them are especially valuable, i do have a few pre 1920's silvers and some pre 1946's. But id like to store them all in a folder or somthing similar and was thinking of buying an album i sore in whsmith but ive read online that some have pvc in the plastic that can damage the coins over time. Does anyone know if the whsmith folders/refills have pvc in them? Thanks for any replies, chris. Quote

And if you are really concerned, the home page of Predecimal sells accessories, including coin envelopes that the owner guarantees are PVC-free. You can place an envelope into a pocket in an album - that's what many people do.I've never found WHSmith the cheapest retailers - you could compare their prices with the home page here? Quote

I assume polypropylene is safe for coins. Hope this is of help? Quote
Sylvester Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I'm afraid I know all too well the price of cheap PVC plastic holders and album pages. From when I was about 10 until the age of 16 I used to save my pocket money and buy EF-UNC coins, mostly shillings, but also I assembled a few UNC year sets too. My father, kindly bought me a rather nice folder with album pages to store them in, (unfortunately what he didn't know, and neither did I - they contained PVC). After a few years I noticed the silver coins (particularly the George VI 50% silver) had a weird discoloured corrosion starting and well I lost practically the whole lot. I guess I learned the hard way. Quote
