Russ777 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I was looking through some of my old GB Pennies and although this 1885 one was worn I noticed something quite unusual on the Head side.If I am not mistaken there is excess metal or a die flaw just above the head near the letters IT of BRITT in the inscription. Strangely if you turn it sideways it looks like a large number 2. It is definitely not a gouge as I have run my finger over it. Can anyone shed any light on what this is and is it of interest to collectors?? I have never seen one before but maybe I have not seen enough of these coins.. Please take a look and let me know your opinion, does it increase value from pennies to pounds???Thanks Russ Quote
Russ777 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Heres a sideways view which shows how the raised metal touches the first T of BRITT Quote
VickySilver Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Russ, I would not get too excited by a bit of metal as planchet and striking flaws of this nature are not special and so would not have added value IMO (in my opinion). Quote
