Guest Caron Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 My parents have what they believe is a Half Sovereign, but all the info I have tried to find for them seems to dispute that it may be real.It has a young Victoria with 1878 stamped at the base of her neck.The other side is a shield, with no wreath around it. It has what appears to be A49 stamped at the base of the shield.The strange thing however, is that the shield is upside down to Victoria when I flip the coin horizontally.Has anyone got any ideas at all.Cheers Quote

The date below the neck is correct and the number below the sheild is the die number. The sheild should be up side down compared to Queen Vic's head. Not sure about the wreath.Gary Quote
