hbox Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I have noticed that the 1921 penny I have is different to the 1920 (don’t have 1922 to compare) it’s my understanding this is the order in which they run1918 1918H 1918KN 1919 1919H 1919KN 1920 1921 1922 1926 Second Type - Modified Obverse 1926Third Type - Modified Reverse 1927 Fourth Type - Obverse Modified Again 1928 1929 And so on Take a look at the GRA:BRITT on the obverse the gap is different (between the colons) looks more like the 1926So my question is this was the coin revised or is this just the result of die types Quote

Obverse 3 has a wider gap and the colon lines up with a tooth. Obverse 3 was also used on the 1926 non-ME penny. All is explained in The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain by Michael Freeman which covers 1860 onwards and is a reference book all bronze collectors should acquire. The 1985 version is ok as the descriptive contents were not revised in 2006; only the prices were changed, which of course immediately became obsolete. Quote
