I am looking for information on Edward III coinages. Spink's list L A Lawrence, "The Coinage of Edward III from 1351" for the fourth coinage, but give nothing earlier than that. So, first, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Lawrence; and second, what are other references for Edward III coinages?

This inquiry comes at hand of a coin I purchased yesterday evening after seeing it in the afternoon at a coin fair, so I do not have it with me at the moment (and won't until I get back from my upcoming travels). When I do get it I'll learn to use my digital camera and post it for everybody to help with attribution. It was marked by the dealer as an Edward IV half-groat which I doubt, it having a cross pattee mm and no tressure.

Thanks, Edward

on page 162 of spink it gives information about the third coinage (1344-51) for gold. on page 165 it gives Firstcoinage (1327-35) for silver. so it does go earlier then 1351...

Edward IV starts on page 191...

Master JMD,

Thanks.  I do have the Spink so I was looking for other sources.  Do you have any suggestions?

there are many books with information about the coinage of Edward III and other monarchs...and also the internet can be a good way to find info...

these are 3 examples of edward III groats:

one

two

three

but i do not collect hammered coinage, so i cannot really give much information...

google is a good way to find info...

Master JMD,

I think Edward is talking about highly specialised information, of the kind that simply doesn't exist on the internet.

I also know that Edward is quite capable of using a search engine and finding pictures of coins.

Despite Edward's new appearance in the forum, I know for a fact that he has been involved with coins of one form or another for quite a while and already has a high level of knowledge on the subject.

We appeciate your enthusiasm (as ever) but please don't overly try to be an authority on everything, it really doesn't read well.

Lest this get lost at the bottom of the pile and not fall under the eye of anyone knowlegdeable but visiting less frequently, I would like to ask any for any help you can give with specifics about Edward III coinage, particularly the third issue.
