Guest yorky Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 HiI am new to this web site. It has taken me a while to register because most of what I have seen on here relates to the milled series. I have collected coins for several years nothing specific and nothing to expensive. Also for the last fifteen years I have been an avid metal detectorist, and through out those years I have found a good few hammered silver coins, I have yet to find a gold hammered but I live in hope. I dont know if there are any hammered coin experts on this site but I would like to bring up the topic of my Elizabeth I wire line inner circle penny with lis mint mark. As I dont sell any thing that I find the price is not of importance, what I would like to know if any body can help, is just how rare this coin is, I have found reference to the shilling and groat/halfgroat but not the penny. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Welcome Yorky! Firstly, glad to see a detectorist and collector on this forum. This penny is indeed rare, in Fine it books in at around £330 and in VF around £1300. But let me state that these prices are only a guide, if you were to sell it you would most likely get slightly less.So yes, this is a rare coin and a nice example too! Kindest Regards,Clive. Quote
Geordie582 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Welcome, Yorky! Yes there are a number of Hammered nuts on this forum, though you're right, Most of the posts are about milled but there are always Hammered enthusiasts lurking in the background, ready to pounce - just like Clive!!
