Q.E.D. Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Several times I have seen british set of 1940-s and 1960-s sealed in the plastic, the coins were UNC. Does anyone know if Royal Mint was issuing smthg like this? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 No, they were made up by third parties usually in the 60s. Those were the days before the RM starting boxing up things for collectors, how marvelous that must have been! Quote

declanwmagee Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 ...and how about the strips of 5 sealed in plastic? We bought a load of them a few months ago - various denominations halfpenny to halfcrown, ranging from 1957-1966Did they get sealed up by 3rd parties too?cheersDeclan Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I don't know exactly what you mean but as far as I know the RM didn't seal anything in plastic apart from the 1953 9 coin set. Quote
declanwmagee Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 thanks for the response Chris;they are strips of five identical coins, each coin in an individual compartment within each strip. The plastic is less transparent than the 53 sets, but more flexible, and the coins are UNC.here's a pic...I'd be interested in whether you, or anyone else has come across them before, and what their provenance is. Chris Perkins Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Someone has sealed those in. They will just have individual coin value for each. Quote

I would therefore suggest that you remove the coins and place them somewhere where the environment is known to be benign. I think Chris might be able to help here! Quote
declanwmagee Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 right you are!thanks chaps - I'll get snipping them up pronto : ) Quote
