Hi everyone!

I have a bit of trouble adding my coins in my coin collection software.

There is such a topics like: Mintage; Metal Observations; Mint; Shape (where I can choose: Circular with a hole in the middle; Dodecagon; Endecagon with rounded sides and Heptagon).

For example, 1 Dollar of United States 1980 S

The mintage of it is 20422000. What does it mean and how do I find out the mintage of coins I have? I've no clue about this!

Please, also explain to me with some examples as well, if it's too much trouble for you.

Thanks.

Regards,

It means there where 20,422,000 of that type of coin ( "S" = San Francisco) minted (struck, produced). Most books have mintage numbers. Chris's Collectors Coins GB has them for most non gold coins. The Krause Standard Catalogue of World Coins. Has them for most world coins, but these books are quite pricey and the values aren't always very up to date.

You can also find bits and bobs on the net. Just type in the type of coin you have and mintage number in Google. You might find it.

Hi Huss! I didn't expect to see you here so late!

I got you about mintage, thanks!

But what is the story with these Chinese words:

Mintage; Metal Observations; Mint; Shape (where I can choose: Circular with a hole in the middle; Dodecagon; Endecagon with rounded sides and Heptagon).

Still, if any one is really bored  and wants to take a look at my coins, just PM me your e-mail address.

I would really appreciate it.

Regards,

Panterex

So does anybody know the meaning of these "Chinese" words as: Metal Observations; Mint; Shape (where I can choose: Circular with a hole in the middle; Dodecagon; Endecagon with rounded sides and Heptagon)?

It means exactly the shape of the coin. So i.e. an enneadecagon is a polygon with 19 sides and angles. Just look for the terms dodegacon etc in Wikipedia and you will understand, what is meant with those terms in your software immediately

Sorry, I forgot a part of the answer. "Mint" means the town where the coin has been strucked. I don't know, what "Metal observation" means, but there should be a field in your software, where you write in, what kind of material your coin is, i.e. copper or bronze. If there isn't, this could be meant with Metal Observation. But I'm a German, there sure is better help for this question in this forum.
