hyundisonata Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Hi I have a Victorian florin but it has no date but I do know it is gothic and pre 1861 can any one explain why it has no date or is the date hidden in the Latin.I also have the full set of coins from the farthing up to the guinea all in mint condition and wonder what the value would be. Peter Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Gothic florins 1851-87 have the date in Roman numerals on the obverse ie 1856=mdccclvim=1000d=500c=100l=50v=5i=1It should be possible to date any unworn coin...however I confess I sometimes have difficulty as the letters are sometimes strange to say the least. What date is your 1/4d to guinea set....its going to worth a considerable sum regardless. Chris Perkins Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 That'll be a sovereign then, not a guinea (20s, not 21s). Post pictures if you can. Quote
