Richard2 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Hi all, found this short cross cut half recently but have been unable to id it can anyone help please, cheers, Richard Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 'tis a tough one, I think it is of London mint, possibly King John but not sure about the moneyer as it's partially clipped.Kindest Regards,Clive. Quote
Geordie582 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) Given that I'm sure it is a John Class 5b, the only moneyer that fits the visible letters would be FULKE ON LVND (London). Clive might disagree! The 'S' is also unusual. Edited April 4, 2008 by Geordie582 Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) It's an odd coin, I don't think that it is Fvlke due to the position of the "L", that F also looks odd. A most intriguing coin!See photo: Edited April 4, 2008 by HistoricCoinage Quote

A most intriguing coin!See photo:I chose FVLKE as the only listed 'F' in Coincraft. I suppose it could be an 'E' then we are in a bind! There are no moneyers listed starting with 'E'! It could be an unlisted gentleman (or is that illegal these days - I should have said 'person', though I don't think there is any evidence for femail moneyers in the 12th century) Oh! By the way. I suppose I'll have to be Richard I now we have another Richard on the site(I always did admire the man!) Edited April 4, 2008 by Geordie582 Quote
