It's a forgery. I collect forgeries and would give you £2 + £1 postage for it.

Hi Chris,

I was just interseted in any info on this coin I have never seen a 50p made of brass before. I don't actually own one the one I posted is up for sale on e-bay the item number is 230183234731 if you are interested. Thanks for the the info though.

IS 50p really worthwhile as a forgery? Reminds me of the US nickels that were forged back in the 40's/50's almost no profit at all.

I expect 50p was probably more like £3-5 then! The 50p coin replaced a predecimal banknote of course (the 10 Shilling note), so it must have been worthwhile and at least comparible with fake £1 and £2 coins today.

Just been playing about with the government's RPI statistics and according to my calculations 50p in 1969 is equivalent to £5.46 now.

That makes sense....the 10 Shillings being the smallest banknote then and the £5 being the smallest banknote now (except in Scotland).

No they are not worth anything. I just like them and they fit in with my other fakes from over the years.

My father used to run a shop and accumulated several post war forgeries. I, in my childish wisdom mutilated them by bending and cutting them in half. Amazing I didn't get lead poisoning
