Guest tomslick Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Hi Does anyone have any ideas or information on the following 1969 brass 50 pence coin please? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 It's a forgery. I collect forgeries and would give you £2 + £1 postage for it. Quote
Guest tomslick Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Hi Chris,I was just interseted in any info on this coin I have never seen a 50p made of brass before. Art Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 IS 50p really worthwhile as a forgery? Reminds me of the US nickels that were forged back in the 40's/50's almost no profit at all. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I expect 50p was probably more like £3-5 then! The 50p coin replaced a predecimal banknote of course (the 10 Shilling note), so it must have been worthwhile and at least comparible with fake £1 and £2 coins today. Quote
Red Riley Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 qJust been playing about with the government's RPI statistics and according to my calculations 50p in 1969 is equivalent to £5.46 now. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 That makes sense....the 10 Shillings being the smallest banknote then and the £5 being the smallest banknote now (except in Scotland). Quote
Coin_Hunter Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 My mother gave me a fake £1 coin which had had the surface scratched away to reveal its stealy undersurfaceYou saying these are worth something now?Pity I turned my nose up at it..... Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 No they are not worth anything. I just like them and they fit in with my other fakes from over the years. Quote
Red Riley Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 No they are not worth anything. I just like them and they fit in with my other fakes from over the years. My father used to run a shop and accumulated several post war forgeries. I, in my childish wisdom mutilated them by bending and cutting them in half. Amazing I didn't get lead poisoning Quote
