Colin G. Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Anyone have any suggestions for how this happened? I am thinking maybe some part of a filled letter in a die has dropped out onto the die, which has resulted in the strange "R" in VICTORIA.Debris? Quote

Where a small piece of metal fragment has been struck onto the planchet and merged with the coin. Quote
Hussulo Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) Is the error incuse or raised? If its incuse it could be a struck through fragment if its raised then it could be a die cud.A cud is a damaged area of the coin. It looks like a blob on the coin which and is raised above the field a little caused from a chip in the die. Similar to a die crack or cracked die error. Edited October 1, 2007 by Hussulo Quote
