This isn't one I own, but I am asking on someone else's behalf.

Is this a 1727 coronation medal of Caroline struck in gold? and is it genuine?

That's not the official one. The official one is by Croker of of much higher quality. That one may be contemporary. In the Croker medal the Queen faces left and the reverse is the same but of higher relief and with better executed figures.

Yes Chris - that's right. You beat me to it! Yet the reverse appears identical to the Croker medal which I have sitting in front of me. The official mintages figues for the Caroline medal are much lower than those for George II, but the medal seems to be commoner than they would suggest.

You think the rev is identical? From a picture I have in a book, it looks vastly inferior in workmanship. It's obvioulsy supposed to be the same rev as the real thing, but it doesn't look very well done to me.

Yes - you're right; the wear on the reverse of mine is such that a quick comparison is misleading.
