Fraggle Rock Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 ...Hi guys and girls!Any ideas about a good book to give me a short history of the Roman Empire, so that I can more fully understand where Roman coins fit into the history?Cheers,Fraggle Rock Quote
Chris Perkins Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Fraggle, do you have a well known British mountain as your surname? I have a book called 'Cronicle of the Roman Emperors'. It's like a biog of each one and very interesting, with a time line, lots of illustrations - contempory and of the some of the remains as they are now. It's available on Amazon.co.uk Quote
Geordie582 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 (edited) Hi! Fraggle. Welcome! A couple of web sites might fit your requirementsRoman BritainandRoman DenominationsI've used them often and find they answer most questions. Edited March 7, 2006 by Geordie582 Quote
Geordie582 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 (edited) Sorry! It looks as though the article on the Ancient Coin Market site has been removed! It was entitled "Roman Imperial Coin Denominatios" by Doug Smith, and gave the historic and political background to each denomination! Shame it's not available!Chris should have some useful books. Fraggle Rock Posted March 8, 2006 Author Posted March 8, 2006 Thanks for your replies, chaps!Chris - yes, I'm one and the same as the mountain guy! Thanks for the suggestion of the Chronicle book - I may well give that one a whirl.Geordie - thanks also! I've steadily building up a list of good websites in my list of favourites, and I'll get round to all of them eventually. Looks promising though!Cheers for now...Fraggle Rock Quote
