Guest franc@fcairns817 Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 I have a coin dating I think around 1934-1937 Commemorating a Royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of York. How can I find out more about it? Quote
Emperor Oli Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 I think I'm right in saying that there are officially minted commemorative coins and loads of unofficial ones. Someone here might know more about it; do you have a photograph? At a longshot, it may be in a book dealing specifically with commemorative coins. Quote

Geoff T Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 This is going to be a medal, not a coin, and it won't be any later than 1936. That was the year the Duke of York became King George VI after the abdication of Edward VIII. The Duchess, or course, became Queen Elizabeth and in 1952 the late Queen Mother.Local medals commemorating royal visits are not uncommon. Can you send a picture and I'll do my best. Thanks - Geoff Quote
