Chris Perkins Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Late Roman, looks like Constantinian Dynasty, could possibly be Valentinian. It was minted in Constantinople from the CON on the reverse (modern Ankara). You need to identify the lettering around the head to tell you what Emperor it is, so that you can date it. Quote
Guest Hingis Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 What does the DN stand for before the name of the emperor? Quote
Guest Hingis Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 And I think you're right about it being Valentinian. It looks like it says D N VALE....But most of the coins I can find on the net look like they have SISC under the emperor dragging the captive on the reverse. Whats the deal? Quote
Geordie582 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I'd say Constantinople mint. You may be right with Valentinian though Gratian used the same reverse, as did Valens! Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Dominus Noster (our Lord) is the DN.SISC is for Siscia mint (In Greece I think). Just because you can't find a picture probably isn't anything remarkable. They minted the same types at different mints usually. Quote
