smk Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Hello, I'm new to this forum and to UK coins. Looking forward to learning from all of you. I'm in US. Is there any books that you can recommend me to get familiarised with uk coins? Is there a acceptable price guide for UK coins like the Red Book in the US?Thank you. Quote
Art Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 There are a number of great books that could help. My favorites are:Collectors' Coins of Great Britain.Spinks' Coins of England and the United KingdomCoinCraft Standard Catalog of Coins of the United KingdomThe CCGB is more up to date on pricing than the CoinCraft. I believe 2000 was the last year it was issued. I know that there's a 2005 Spinks and CCGB. The books can sometimes be found on ebay, amazon, etc. from US shippers. The S&H from the UK can be as much or more than the book. Quote
Peter Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Hi SmkART's suggestions are for a global insight. There are many specialist books on various denominations....find out what you like and go from there.I bought my 1st Red book(spiral) last year...very impressive .My advice would be...1 CCGB (its great value)2 Spink....2006 will be out soon so bargains to be had.(I still use 2004)3 Coincrafts massive book..latest edition 2000....a wealth of knowledge.Specialist books are a separate subject. Art Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 There's a 2005 Spinks on ebay right now. The current bid is pretty reasonable as are the US shipping charges. You might want to take a look. Quote
