Jon Hill Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Hi, I just wondered if any one knew what the dots of the reverse of a lot of hammered coins represent typically 12 on a penny, 3 in each quater of the cross, any ideas? Jon Quote
Geordie582 Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I don't trhink there was any ulterior motive in the dots being used. If you look at earlier coins, like Henry Ist, Stephen or early Scottish, you will see many designs to 'fill in' the space around the cross. I suppose someone will come up with some hidden meaning, they always do, but, unless it's someone from the British Museum or the British Numismatic Society, I shall be sceptical! Quote
