Half Sovereign

Hi all

Please can someone help me with a valuation. I have a 1918 gold half sovereign with is in very good condition. Research on the internet seems to indicate that this was minted in Perth, Australia - however I can't find any information relating to it's possible value.

Any further information will be very gratefully received!

Ok - as there have been no replies to my question - does this mean that no one has any information on this coin? I'm keen to find out why it was minted in Australia (if that is the case) presumably this was due to the war in Europe.

If no one has this knowledge or the request is too simple - please could someone be kind enough to let me know where I can find out more information either on the web or books.

If the 1/2 Sovereign dated is dated 1918 it would of been minted in Austrailia....Perth in fact ...it will have a small p below the date.

It looks like the most valuable year for George V and could be worth several hundred pounds.

Do not attempt to polish it....gold is soft and marks easily.

Gold sovereign coins were minted in several Austrailian mints from about the 1870's and also in South Africa in the 20 C.

I'm not an expert on gold....hope this helps.

I will endeavour to have a look through a good microscope - it is definitely 1918 and seems to be in good condition.

My 2004 Spink Guide values this coin as follows;

F £125

VF £250

EF £500

UNC £825

Don't overgrade!! especially gold it marks so easily.

Look on this site at the artical on grading.

I'll take a risk and give you a tenner for it
