I noticed this around 2 years ago, the upward climb of the better Edward’s.
Every auction nowadays they seem to fetch a little more. I went at this one as an upgrade, thinking £250 inc. premiums would get me close? The sum of £412 truly staggered me if I’m honest!
It’s a nice coin, of course, but rather annoying that I’ve missed the boat by a couple of years, much as I ultimately have done with Elizabeth.

I wonder how strong the correlation is between literature, identifiable collectibility, and subsequent auction prices/popularity? There’s a clear connection here in the Blunt web resource and the Galata guide, bringing the numismatically interesting sub-classes of the type to the common man, which ultimately pricks the collection mentality of the coin collector.

Doesn’t change the fact I’m once again behind the times!

It looks a detailed  and respectable example.... being able to see Edwards face and the lettering,

EDW REX ANGL' DNS HYB'

Edward King of England Lord of Ireland

Awesome, enough said.....

A respectable example it’s true, but a significant ‘grade’ below the OP coin, though £400+ was an eye-watering sum.
