Metals used in 5 pence coin

Hi can anyone tell me what the metal is used in a UK five pence piece. does is contain lead??? I can't find any information anywhere on the metals used.

It's an alloy of Copper and Nickel and possibly tiny amounts of other metals. I'm not sure off the top of my head about the ratios. They certainly don't contain lead though, that would probably not meet health and safety standards!

This Royal Mint link shows that five pence coins are made from cupro-nickel. A book I have says it is 75% copper and 25% nickel... so no lead.

Fyi i needed to know as my conure parrot plays with them and certain metals are dangerous - especially lead.
