Richard2 Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I thought this might be of interest to some, when I bought my copy at an Antiques fair a few years ago I found inside between the pages this headed note paper from the London Museum. Does anyone know who Mr Gale and W Henderson were ,or are. Long shot I know Richard Quote
Rob Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Struggling. No Gale listed in M & R for the 20th century. Henderson should be easier to trace as he ought to be a museum employee. Quote
Richard2 Posted January 23, 2018 Author Posted January 23, 2018 M &R, what’s that please Rob, excuse my ignorance Quote

The first lists British numismatic auction catalogues from 1710 to 1984 with the names of the vendors given where known. The other two volumes cover British and Irish numismatic periodicals up to the early 1990s. Quote

But with regard to ID, where to begin? Does the London Museum exist now. Does it have any connection with the Museum of London, which was established in 1976? If so, might it be worth contacting them to see if they have any archival record of an employee named W Henderson from around 1946. Moreover, was Mr Gale another employee, and what we see is an internal memo, or was he someone outside? I must admit, I can find absolutely no reference whatever to the London Museum on the internet. But it obviously existed back then. Quote
Guest guest 2591 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 There is plenty of info about the London Museum on the internet. Here is just one link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Museum Quote

Anyway, it does appear that it was indeed amalgamated with the (then new) Museum of London in 1975. So that may be a starting point for you, Richard. From the information in the link, it seems that the museum only had use of the basement at Lancaster House (St James's) in 1946. Edited February 4, 2018 by 1949threepence Quote
