Hi All,

the saga of the 1953 Half crown goes on, i now have a copy of Davis book,  is there any in depth further reading on the George VI/Elizabeth II Cupro nickle coins ? ,the i to the bead is a common one, i now have the plastic set, where the I points to a space, this i believe is davis 1a, from what i can see there is no vip frosted issue listed for the 1953 vip proof coins other than the crown and in the frosted proof is rare and ,  same with spinks, now davis says that with the crown vip proof were frosted, so does that make this crown a VIP Proof ?  and what about about the frosted shillings and 6d i picked up from this set, the penny and half penny also show some degree of frosting, i'm now confused more than ever, and the half crown i bought for 7 quid is frosted but no mention of them in davis or spinks, they mention matte proof in the other denominations for this set, has this issue not been properly looked into yet ?

You could look at Dave Groom's book - "The Identification of British 20th Century Silver Coin Varieties" which goes into greater depth than Davis.
