From the collection:

Hiberno-Norse Northumbria. Anlaf Guthfrithsson. 939-941 cut half-penny.

+ •ΛNL-•ΛF CVNVHC’, raven with wings displayed, head left.

+ •ΛÐELFERD HINETΓ, small cross pattée.

 York mint, moneyer Athelferd

A very rare thing.

Scarce and well struck! Is it definitely a cut half, though? Hard to tell from these images.

I've been fortunate enough to handle a few of these Raven pennies but have yet to call one my own. Envious.

Thank you, I would describe it as a half but a 'hack half' as it were. As you are well aware the Vikings relied on a bullion economy so I would suggest that a full coin has been 'hacked' to create the right weight for a trade or purchase.

However I would be open to other suggestions. PM on the way.
