If nothing else it is a good set of information to educate yourself against fakes of these specific series.

Plus the fact i learnt that Potosi mint was still minting cobs in 1760, didn't know that until today :rolleyes:

Ye that's correct we learn more each day that's for sure ) but what about the 5 francs and the gold looking coin that has been trimmed and the sommer coins ? i did some reading on the sommer coin and the chance of a genuine one turning up is not going to happen and they don't feel right so I will add them to the ever growing box of coins .

Go to this page and scroll down to the 'clipped' example, there is a chance that your coin is like it.

It could still be a fake, so your only chance really is to take it to a specialist in colonial cobs. Any chance you could go and see Mr. Sedgwick in Florida? :lol:

It's been a while since I was in Florida so may be a vacation but then again a caretakers wage not stretch that far so nay be not I will just get it checked to see what metal it is first I think
