But I can't grade for toffee so... I propose a new two-tier grading system. I was just reading some of his feedback though and I feel sorry for him actually, assuming his responses are honest as it would appear that other sellers are trying to discredit him on false grounds. Stuart, you're right. The colour values in the rest of the photo look to be pretty accurate. The coin could well be brown! I also agree it looks like a tun mm. Clear on the reverse, but on the obverse possibly been fiddled about with. If an earlier coin had been over struck, why would it be done in such a way? Both obverse and reverse designs and legends completely replaced, but just the tiny area where the mm appears left unchanged? Nah…..

Here, from my collection, is an example of a straightforward counterfeit halfpenny of the same period. A very dangerous business to be involved in back then!

And 'Britain's Isles' on the reverse. Rob would probably be the bloke to ask about the initials under the bust. They are in relief, so unlikely to have been engraved later.

Maybe, but even a poor picture beats the initials "red brown". I mean, for heaven's sake! Every single (just about) Vicky copper is a red-brown colour, even when worn to hell. It's meaningless. Apart from the polished ones which appear on ebay that is. Lovely and shiny bright . Which initials would be best used to describe the colour of those?…….

Over the years I have seen/received a lot of derisory offers that were well below intrinsic value, let alone their price as a collectible. OK, in this instance the price is just plain silly, but I can see where he's coming from. In this case, yes it is. I refer to the words used, not the intended meaning.

No, I didn't mean the date. Have a look at the right hand side of the obverse - do you see a very much larger than usual gap between the teeth and the linear circle? I've rotated the image the correct way up, and it's still there. Particularly noticeable by REG.F Once pointed out it seems very obvious indeed. Quite unusual.

Hi John. You're quite correct. It simply means no sales information is recorded for examples in those grades. It usually applies to common modern coins. Did you decide yet on which series you will collect?
