Thanks Colin, and searching the net, I did see some offered by Dragon Antiques in Gloucestershire; both empty and partially filled. However, the empty ones were listed for 10 pounds ($18.78 USD) for a (presumably) used coin folder; which certainly must be a typo. When new they only retailed for 1 pound 59 ($2.99 USD). I offered him 2 pounds ($3.76 USD) a piece for the five or six I as looking for last week......and am waiting for a reply. Mike

Thanks Peter, they may now be out of print, but coin shops may still have copies in stock. I've looking for folders for most demomination post-Victorian, pre-decimal coins. Mike

I'm an American who colllects British coins, and have a friend (and Brit) headed home for the holidays. He will promarily be in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire and has agreed to bring back some Whitman coin folders if I can locate a shop that carries them. Can anyone recommend any shop(s) ? Stalker, Keep in mind that "coppers" refer more to the color of the coin versus the actual metal content. Pre-decimal farthings, half pennies and pennies were made of bronze the last one hundred years or so of their lives (since 1860). Decimal half pennies were bronze during their short life and the decimal pennies and two pence were bronze until 1992; at which time they were made of copper plated steel. Not exactly the copper content needed to make a profit. Like Australia and New Zealand I was just wondering if there has been any rumors in the UK numismatic community about doing away with the 1p and 2p for inflationary reasons. Much like the decimal half penny was removed from circulation by 1984.

I'm curious what the latest thinking is in Britain, regarding removing the 1p and 2p from circulation; and rounding purchases up ? Australia and New Zealand have already done it ('90 and '91 respectively) and earlier this year (July) New Zealand additionally removed the five cent coin from circulation. Thanks Simon. Tony Clayton's website is very informative, but there is no info on annual predecimal mint quantities. It must reside somewhere.

As an American who collects British coins, I really appreciate the info the Royal Mint website provides; especially the links for UK Coins issued annually. However, the six current links cover the post-decimalization issues only. Are there any links that can provide me the same information for the pre-decimalization years; at least the 20th century ?
