  1. Well, I'm here too, or if you prefer "sono qui".... I always have a look in the forum, but my topics are not much, basically couse it's not easy for me to write and communicate what I think in english. Some years ago I decided (I always say that only God knows why...) collect british coins, and this forum is a great surce for me! Well, if you need some informations about italian or Euro coins.. I'm here...! e.g. probably in the next week will be struck the 2005 "Sede Vacante" (Vacancy See) coin. It's a Vatican coin struck during de vacancy of the Holy See; the last was minted in 1978, during the Vacancy between John Paul I and John Paul II.... Bye!
  2. Yes, it's correct! Mussolini didn't appear in any coin, couse for the italian low only the king, as Head of State, could appear on coins and banknotes, and Mussolini officially was "only" Head of Governament. This is a "medal" struck firstly in 1943 and then for many years later (until the '60s more or less) for "nostalgic" people...... And is also very common and don't have a numismatic value. The "original one" is a 1928 commemorative silver 20 liras and its value, in UNC condition is about 1.800 euros, more or less 1.200 pounds! bye!
  3. Hi everyone! In the "silver" coins between 1920 and 1946 what are the other metals? the 50% il silver, and the other half?? many many thanks and Happy Easter!!! ale
  4. Hi everyone! First of all, forgive my bad english! I've now decided to begin to collect decimal coins, from 1968-1971 to nowadays. As I'm italian and will result dificult to me to find single coins, what do you think is better. collect, and buying, single coins or is better buying mint folders (expecilly for the last years, where there are a lot of commemoratives)? Many thanks
  5. In theese months, I've seen that in general, decimal coinage is not "considered" by the mayority of british collectors... Well... It's normal... Also here in Italy the republican coinage wasn't considered so much... (now with the euro is changed...), but there were a lot of people interessed in. Why decimal coinage isnt'so "loved"? Well, I know that the predecima one is more fascinating but also the actual is.... And I can say that, if in the future the pound will go to the euro, the prices of every single common coin will rise.... and rise....... Here now is quite impossible to find a common 500liras coin at 25cent (the "face value"). All are at 0.50 - 1.00 euros, and if UNC, more.... A question: Someone knows where I can find and buy some crown sized coins? I don't have some of the 90's and the 2000 and 2001 ones.... Many thanks Alex
  6. What do you mean? I know that the "real" Crown is the old 5 shillings (or 25 new pence) coin. And that theese are known as "crown sized coins"...... Is this?
  7. Hi everyone! Someone knows if for the two 2005 crowns (Nelson and Trafalgar) the Royal Mint will sell the simple coins, without the folder? I collect cupro-nikel crowns and I prefere the simple ones, not in "presentation folder".... But now the RM sells only crown in folder.... Many thanks and as allways... forgive my poor english Alex
  8. Hi everyone! When will be the next coin fair in Lonon or near London? And where was exactly the last fair? Very far from Luton? (the airport where I can arrive...). In the first months of 2005 there will be the direct fly between Parma and Luton and it would be great for me have a weekend in London in the same period of a coin fair.... bye Alex
  9. When UK (and "if") will go to the Euro the Royal Mint will make only British Euro coins. Here in Italy the italina mint makes only italian coins (plus the saint Marin and Vatican ones, but this is for the partnerships between theese countries and Italy). I'm a supporter of the Euro, couse as I'm a traveler, it's more, more, more useful. but one negative sides is that here in Italy and I think in a lot of others countries the prices of all "pre-euro" coins now are very high, becouse a lot of people in 2002 became to collect "old" liras or pesetas or francs ... so the prices grew up!!!! Another negative side is that if UK will go to the Euro, I will havo to stop my pounds collection...... bye Alex
