  1. Thank you so much for your help Rob. I appreciate your expertise.
  2. Yes. This coin passed through the main auction house in New Zealand in 2019 and is presently being sold by a reputable seller. However I have issues with these pearls on the obverse. It is not a cheap coin and there are a lot of pearls. I have never seen these before on a genuine sovereign or half sovereign. I have not been able to find any on the internet or a reasonable explanation for these marks. The only ones I have found are on cast forgeries. I would really appreciate if someone could explain what these pearl are. The seller and other dealers I know do not know what they are.
  3. Hello. I am look at buying an 1828 Half sovereign, but it has what looks like little pearls on the obverse around the King's head and especially around the date. Is it fake or some sort of damage? I would appreciate any advise.

    Mary I Groat

Hello.I have just purchased a Mary I Groat from a experienced coin dealer but it doesnt ring like a coin when I drop it on my desk, and has a low Specific gravity. I noted in a forum topic from 2012 mention of a Mary Groat database of fake coins. Could someone please compare my coin or advise me of how to find this database. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Charles I Sixpence Sp 2800.. 3a?

    Thank you for your advice
  6. Hello, I am new to this site and to collecting Hammered coins. I have just purchased my first coin that I think is a Charles I sixpence Sp 2800...3a. It is crown mintmark [1635-6] which is what the dealer sold it as. My question is it only weighs 2.69g which appears to be quite light for a sixpence. Would a Charles I expert mind looking at my coin and comment on it and the weight please. What do I actually look for in a hammered coin. They appear differ vastly from each other. The diameter is 24.4-25.1mm and it doesn't appear to be clipped. Thank you in advance for any advice. Michael
