Thanks mrbadexample, The Swedish Ore collection inherited from my Grandfather is all pre-1940's. What is the 1929 you have?

    Can I pass my grading exam...pt. 2

Thanks bhx7. I'm not sure my photos are good enough really... The obv definitely seems more worn that the rev IMO. TBH, I would be happy with an overall VF

Awesome advice! Many many thanks my friend!!!! It's gonna take me a few months to get everything sorted, but just like mrbadexample I know I'm gonna learn soo much! But definitely have too many so must sell and of course re-invest ...I'm waiting for the chorus of 'you can never have too many coins...

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Now that's interesting... Take out the silver content coins eh?... I'd say 20% of the collection has silver content. Do you think the rest would still sell?

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Nice one! Although that's sad you couldn't shift any on Ebay I probably have 20-50 coins per country in the collection so maybe a bulk listing on Ebay per country? Never thought about the Facebook approach as Paulus suggested... Lots to consider.... But for now I've got 1999 coins to sort through...number 1 was that nice Prussian 3 Mark coin...you know what's gonna happen right...

Thanks Paulus, Loving this community already! Such great advice that gives me as a newbie renewed confidence! I would like to sell 98% of the world coin collection and focus solely of GB and not sure what type yet but I really like the GIII era. Expensive though!

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

And that is EXACTLY what I'm doing right now my man! Got some time off work sorting through the 2000 or so coins and looking up each one like this rather nice 1913 Prussian 3 Mark coin... I know it's not a good grade but it's 0.900 fine silver so worth a few pennies even in bullion value right?

Thanks again Nordle! And thanks everyone for making this an awesome day of learning so far!

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Thanks Nordle. Many of you guys & gals have got awesome collections! It makes my motley assortment look awful I reckon from the 2000 or so coins I have from around the globe, only 4 or 5 are anywhere near EF grade... So...that begs another question... A member here on another thread said some wise words - 'it's better to have 1 high grade coin than 100 poor quality coins' I totally agree, so what is the best way to sell 2000 or so world coins to create some funds to buy 1 or 2 really choice coins?

Now that is an offer I cannot refuse! Thanks Nordle! BTW - Love your Penny Collection website! Great large photos and info! Perfect for a newbie to learn from.

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Thanks Nordle, and that's exactly what I want to hear because as I mentioned before, I want to avoid getting ripped off. The more I can learn from you guys about what pitfalls to avoid then hopefully I can boost my collection without too many mistakes.

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

So everyone...here's another interesting question... If you had £10K to invest purely in coins (or coin)... What would you buy and why? Oh...and how would you buy it?...

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Thanks Pete, and I totally understand the profiteering angle, but even a high grade GB collection that I can be proud of owning that at least will hold it's value in 20 years time would satisfy me. Thanks for everyone's input so far! This is becoming a very interesting thread.

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Thanks Non. Other than the inherited collection of Swedish Ore coins from my Grandfather, I have to admit I have got possibly over 2000 world coins Yeah I know...typical newbie hoarder!

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

That's a great story Pete, and exactly the kind of 'Buyer Beware' experiential tale I want to hear! You see I really don't want to get ripped off right? And because I am by nature a very trusting person I can see myself as being cannon fodder for many an unscrupulous dealer. But I'm totally with you on the area of a dealer missing out on revenue! You see, I'm willing to invest about £10K with a trusted dealer who can genuinely supply me with a selection of GB coins in the highest possible grade that 'will hopefully' realize a profit in 20 years time. Perhaps I should give Neil Paisley a call? Thanks Pete!

    What do you collect Non?
  20. Weaver

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Thanks PWA, and the obvious question is... What tests or ways can you use to ensure you find a dealer you can trust? Or is it sadly trial and error? Sorry if you have talked about this before PWA, but do you mind telling me more about your negative experience with the dealer you now avoid please?

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Totally with you IanB, and to be clear it's definitely a hobby first that I enjoy! But, there is also a part of me that wants to consider a separate coin collection as a diverse investment strategy, and I'm sure there are many coin dealer's customers who ask their trusted dealer to create an investment portfolio of coins for them right? Is that right? Or am I wrong here?
  22. Weaver

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Ok... So would you purchase a choice coin in high grade for over the 'book' price?

Strategy & etiquette for purchasing coins

Once again, thanks for your advice Non! Really helpful mate!
