Nons "What crap has he bought this time?" Thread.....
Nonmortuus replied to Nonmortuus's topic in Beginners area
I think I paid about £4 for this: -
Hi all, could have some opinions on the following please before I take the plunge? 1820 Half Crown I believe it to be EF but wanted a second opinion. Also do you feel the toning is natural? Is there anything about this that concerns you? Does it look polished etc? Thanks Non
-
As the title, I want to get a few pictures of some of my latest coins to post on here and wanted some generally advice on how to achieve a good picture. I have a semi decent SLR with Macro but aside from using good lighting and using the macro function is there any other pearls of wisdom you can share?
-
Azda did you get your coin back yet? What did they grade it as?
-
Thank you for the fast replies. I was worried that it had been polished. Also is that sort of rainbow toning gnerally frowned upon?
-
Thank you both! All being well I will get chance to post some pics tonight.
-
I am just trying to buy some relatively cheap coins to try and practice my grading etc... hopefully these are not deemed to be awful. All in I think the three cost me £28.
-
Thanks for the feedback, I am still not overly confident with my grading, I spent most of this morning at the coin fair doubting myself and asking others for their opinions. To see feedback saying I am not a million miles away is good to read.
-
Well I had them down as: 1887 Florin - Ob - VF due to the nick at 3 o'clock, Rev - EF, overall - VF 1914 Shilling - Ob - EF due to wear on upper ear, Rev - AU, overall EF 1934 Shilling - Ob - EF due to wear on upper ear , Rev - VF, overall VF I would welcome peoples input, tell me if you think aI am wrong and why so I can re evaulate them.

Hi all, I am after some opinions on two Halfcrowns up for auction on ebay (yes I know ebay /sigh) George III 1817 George IV 1824 I really would apprciate people thoughts on what a fair price for this would be and what grades you would give to both. Thanks Non
-
Thanks all, I will steer clear based on what you have said and wait for the coin fair on Sunday.
-
So the toning is suspect in your opinion?
-
So my Florin arrived today. Should the obverse and reverse align? I cannot find anything saying anything else other than that they should. Thanks Non

Thanks for the feedback, I am guessing you never made a mistake in your life? If I planned to flip it and make a quick bit of money I would be concerned. I am not so I am not. I will learn from my mistakes Worse case scenario I would make a small lose/get my money back on ebay. -
