    Grade my coin

Yes it's a nice coin ! If it were a middle grade no doubt the lads could help. There's not much in it with the higher grades .......

    1822 SOVEREIGN PCGS

Nice coin regardless. I like that obverse, even if Georgey did not !

    NEW COLLECTOR

Welcome John ! What a fantastic 1827 sovereign you have there, thanks for showing us. I have but one sovereign, a Victoria Young Head Shield sovereign, which I like very much. Cheers Garrett.

    Felt unwell

Good to see you are on the mend Peter. Rob - bloody interesting coin !

    CGS Again

Yes - getting old and slowing up a bit

    CGS Again

I LOVE slabs I normally buy one every Friday afternoon . To get back on topic most coins have photo's available so caveat emptor. cheers Garrett. PS - sorry couldn't help myself; 'slab' is colloquial for a carton of beers.

    Newbie

Yes welcome aboard mate ! This is an excellent forum. Very friendly and heaps of good information. It's my 'coin club', and refuge from the hubbub/hectics of daily life. Your godless florin is better than mine, which is also cleaned (purchased in my youth) so hopefully we can stay friends when a nice one pops up in an auction somewhere . cheers Garrett.
  9. I don't mind the latest although I didn't vote for it. I wonder if her majesty will look younger the more we (or rather you lot) rub her up a bit. Those wrinkles might be the first to go.......

    Civil War Pound.

thanks MH ! Looks to be a nice coin and would fit in my collection. Although I have no idea what a fair price would be, and I sure as hell not going to bother go looking. cheers Garrett.
  11. okay thanks. Half looked like 'R' over 'B' or something ....
  12. I must admit I can't add much to the topic. Nice coin though. Is there something going on with the 'R' in Victoria ?
  13. Thought I would start a thread on the upcoming Noble sale. Catalogue not up yet at www.noble.com.au I was just flicking through the highlights though, and saw a gorgeous Anne farthing. While try to attach a screenshot. I saw her first. Mine, mine , mine !! Just kidding, I stick with the one I have. cheers Garrett

    Gothic Crown

Cool John. Let us know (and a pic or two) if you get the coin. Next time I have a day off I might visit a few shops and see if it is still around. There was a nice one at Colonial Collectables for 4k NZD that was on the website for ages last year, so 3750 AUD for one aU sounds about the going rate. cheers Garrett.
  15. No worries you're more experienced in this field than me. I was just calling it as I saw it. cheers Garrett.

    Gothic Crown

If you search through this forum there is one or more threads with other indicators for the Gothic crown. I would say IMO the price of these and the 'thumpers has been beaten down due to the concern about fakes. Good luck !
  17. Hi Vicky I was just comparing the image on the screen with the image from "Grading British Coins" on my phone. I didn't think either side made it to the EF picture in the book, especially the obverse. Did you grade against the same book ? cheers Garrett.
  18. IMO the obverse is not EF and neither is the reverse although it's a touch better.
  19. Nice 1860 Penny there ! Good to hear Peckris is okay.
  20. Garrett

    George 1V Gold Sovereign

I broadly agree with Paulus, around VF but warrants a closer look. Some parts of the obverse look VF+ but some others not so sure.
  21. okay all good logic. Thanks for the replies.
  22. And that is fair enough too. Do you get many cheques these days ? I can't think of any reason I would want to get a chequebook. cheers Garrett.

    My kind of music

Nothing wrong with a bit of a listen to music for sure ! I had a rec day (holiday) yesterday (Friday). It pissed down rained all day in Brisbane and I spent a good deal of time listening to Dire Straits covers on YouTube. There is some fantastic stuff out there

    ID Please?

yes that's better ! Looked like the defect may have been at 2 o'clock on the obverse in the first pic, but it is gone now. Nice coin.
