  1. Lot 2662 went for 5000 (hammer)Thank you very much!!!
  2. Must admit there wasn't much I was interested in and decided not to bid. The few I would like will go way above what I am prepared to bid. I am interested in what the 05 halfcrown goes for, could someone post the result of it on here in due course ?
  3. Is anyone bidding on this sale today?? I have a few bids but knowing spink sales I will be nowhere near!!!! Still I will follow it online!!!
  4. I agree however I do think it is an older persons hobby, I still get plenty of new collectors, it tends to be males 50+ who's children have got older and now have more disposable income and are looking for a hobby as they begin to think about retirement, having said that I have noticed a few more ladies entering the hobby in more recent times!!!
  5. Well at least you got one ;-) should have posted the topic earlier!!! I only won one lot too
  6. Alan I hope you are feeling better ;-)
  7. Yes it's been coming for a while and mainly for the reasons mentioned on the other thread Spink 2014

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Several weeks, eh? I have been a member here for 21 days -- so seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. azda, remember who started with the vulgar mud slinging. It was you. I have remained civil throughout all of your frustration and drama. I get that you don't like opinions that differ from your own, but no where have I personally attacked you. I have disagreed with you, sure. But, that's the nature of a "discussion forum", is it not? Further, I don't know of any of my replies that have been deleted...are you confusing me with someone else; or have you had a bad dream recently? I simply don't see why your feathers are so ruffled so as to be apparently losing sleep over an online quibble. Life goes on. Rest well though, as I've recently discovered the ignore feature on this forum, and you will have to worry no more of my replying to your posts, as I won't ven have to read or see them. Cheers. Obviously you don't understand that several weeks means 2 weeks (14 days) and you have been a member for a mere 21 days which in turn means you've been having a dig at me simce your 1st week of being here. I've now decided that i should now leave the forum because of your constant goading which AGAIN you have done on this thread. It seems it does'nt matter which thread i comment on tha you will constantly be digging a knife into me.Unfortunately, it seems that you are allowed to continually Harass me and Chase me around on here and so it leaves me no option but to not come back. The bullying win. When he starts on another member i'm sure something will be done then. Ciao guys, its been a blast but one of us had to go. Just briefly saw this discussion the other night and just thought it was banter but now I see it is serious?!?!? Very unusual for this forum Neil - we're normally an easy-going lot! I quite agree!!! One thing I have learnt over the last 18 years in coins is that the coin world is a small world and it is definitely not worth falling out with people!!

  10. I quite agree because believe it or now there is nobody at spink who really knows anything about coins, one of their ex staff freely admitted it ;-)
  11. I just had a look and all they have is the 2013 edition. It still costs £17.99 What's more, it's advertised as a hardback. Wonder how THAT gets down the phoneline? I had the same problem when I downloaded a couple of books to read on holiday. I almost clicked on the 'hardback' download for £21.99, before I noticed the £4.99 'paperback' alternative! I wonder how many people have thrown money away on that? Am I missing something here? I have never downloaded a book to iTunes so I probably am, but what the smeg is the difference between a 'hardback' download and a 'paperback' download?! As I discovered, absolutely nothing but the price! All downloads should be at the lower price, but sometimes errors are made.Well when it is released I will download it and let you know what I think !! With regard to Spink not doing numismatic circulars, they realise that they make far more money from auction, they don't have to outlay any capital and if something doesn't sell they hand it back!! They used to have a lot of staff when they were doing the numismatic circular and when you take the frequency of their circulars and the amount of stock on each one I could never believe they were able to cover all those London salaries!! Therefore someone looked at the whole operation and thought we will save a lot of money if we run a skeleton staff and focus on the auctions!!
  12. I note that this year you can download Coinage of England 2014 from I tunes!!! Not a bad idea it means I will have it on my phone if I have forgotten to bring my book!!! As for Spink they have no interest anymore in selling coins, they tried with their last circular but let's just say I know where most of those coins came from and they weren't from the right places ;-) I believe there will be no more circulars just auctions!!! Maybe I will put a bid in for spink but I don't think he will agree to sell for what I can afford ;-) what if all the members on here chip on??

    Grading

It's due out December the 9th but let's just say they will be hard pushed to have it available by then as they have asked for the dealers adverts to be submitted by tomorrow, so the catalogue has not even been put together yet let alone ready for the printers!!
  14. It is simply because of that number on the slab "MS 65" . Now that is actually a very high grade but on an 1887 6d? If you slabbed all the 1887 6ds out there available to collectors I wonder how many would make that grade!! My guess would be a lot because it is a common coin !!!
  15. I have just bought a 1723 4th head guinea today in GVF condition. Strangely it is the II for H in TH variety which is only meant to exist in the 5th head. I have looked back at a number of 1723 4th head guineas and cannot see this variety on any other 4th heads. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light??
  16. I knew you would say that ;-) my IT guy is in tomorrow to do our new general list for November, so when he has pictured it I will post a picture!!!

    Coin Robbery

I have today received a message from the bnta to say that Lloyd Bennett has recovered all his stolen coins! No other details were given
  18. Has anyone had the new DNW catalogue?? a fairly decent collection on offer with some nice proof/pattern crowns and halfcrowns!!!! Unfortunately with it being coinex week I dread to think of some of the prices!!!!
  19. Hi Peter, I believe that was as far as Colin could trace it he could find no earlier record for it!!
  20. Hi rpreddie, Coins over 100 years old attract a charge of 5% and coins less than 100 years old attract a 20% charge, this charge is on top of the buyers premium so you pay it on the whole final cost of the coin
  21. Hi Peter, It came from Colin cooke's collection which we sold in 2006, details are on the website
  22. Peter no I don't sell them I just know certain individuals that do it and then put them for spanning then to auction!!! In all fairness they look very good and if you didn't know and never know it wouldn't matter but because I do know I avoid them, as I said I have to be careful but if I can find an example I will post it!! Incidentally it's so good that most dealers would sell them without knowing
  23. Hi Nick, obviously I could open up a can of worms with this one but will look for an example I can post without upsetting anyone!!
  24. It's very amusing this comment because i know certain individuals who buy top quality coins that have been cleaned or polished, they then use their own "secret recipe" to tone these coins - you should see the results they are astonishing!! These coins regularly end up slabbed with very high grades attributed to them and lets just say I have seen these coins slabbed by every coin grading company including one in England ;-) the toning is so good it would fool anyone unless you had seen them regularly!!! Therefore this American collector has probably actually bought some of these artificially toned coins and seems he is very happy with them ;-)
