    Useful links (members posts)

Sounds like the Spam botter that bot bammed of my forum as well. He's a busy bot.
  3. I'm pretty sure those coins haven't been graded by CGS. Slabbed but not graded. NGC and PCGS will slab any coin but NGC will write XF details, AU details etc. PCGS will just say GENUINE and give a code ie 98 which stands for cleaned on their coding scale. I doubt the seller will get back to you. Perhaps they aren't showing the slab label because it would give the game away.

Thought of you lot the other day....

I don't know but there must be a big mark up for someone along the way. What we pay for a couple of slices of meat in the supermarket compared to what farmers get for a whole animal seems ridiculous.

    Th Great Ebay Loss

but I'd never trust the opinion of someone who's just bought the item! No-one wants to admit any failing in their judgement or purchase... Never a truer word spoken. Yet we've all done it at some point.

  7. Very nice collection Rasiel and welcome to the forum.
  8. I know the prices won't be spot on but as a guide I'll use it for some non UK coins.
  9. To be honest Barca deserved to win and played Man U off the park. Sloppy defending and passing by Man U. Barca had by far the most shots at goal.
  10. Great idea, although I believe the Edinburgh Numismatic Society is no longer active. I phoned Nick Holmes (ex. coin curator at the museum and head of the society) to ask if I could join but unfortunately he said due to lack of people joining and members passing away, it kind of dwindled away and they stopped it.
  11. Unfortunately only worth silver value in that condition, however a coin with a lot of character. Its definitely seen a lot of use and handling. Probably been kept as a pocket piece by someone, perhaps even your grandfather.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Do you think this guy's any good at polishing shoes as well? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1935-CROWN-GEORGE-V-SILVER-COIN-/320688879068?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item4aaa8bf5dc
  13. Great advice by all, which I totally agree with. I've been collecting since I was about 8 and I'm 32 know. I've bought from dealers and ebay and dabbled at selling on ebay for several years. I mostly sold coins that didn't fit into my collection any more or ones I had upgraded. Lately I have started dealing part time. To be honest sometimes I wish I had more money to but stock but I haven't been taking a wage from this business (I still work full time). Instead any profits are used to by more coins for my stock. That way in a few years my inventory will grow to a nice size with hopefully many choice and eye appealing coins. I would love to deal coins full time but as others have pointed out it's not an easy thing to do. As others have pointed out, knowledge is key and take your time. You are still young enjoy the hobby, collect and learn first. As to buying on ebay, I have written a guide on my website which you might find useful: http://www.coinsgb.com/Buying_Coins_On_Ebay.html One last thing to add... If you have any questions just ask, there are many experianced members on this forum with decades of specialised knowledge only to happy to help.
  14. Lamination is usually due to a poor mix in the metal. It can happen to solid metal coins and not necessary only to plated coins.

    TONGA

He did! Thats a classic comedy. It was - and full of shapely young starlets of the day bursting out of their mini-togas Very true Isn't it funny that what society deems is an attractive shape changes through the century's? At the time of the Indus valley a full shaped lady was admired. At the time of the Renaissance a lady would be admired if she had an hour glass shape. Today it tends to be more the slimmer shapes of your Cheryl Cole's and Victoria Beckham that everyone strives for.

no time wasters please Regarding the other listing. It does annoy me when I see post mint, damaged coins being advertised as errors.

Welcome to the forum Uncle Phil. Along with all the excellent advise you have been given, if you are going to build a coin cabinet, make sure you build it using mahogany. This is the most stable type of wood to use for coins. Take a look here for ideas: http://www.coincabinets.com/

    I'm new here.

    Welcome to the forum Pete
  21. I bid about £34 for it. If I won I would have probably offered it for around £50 on my website, which it went for. If I had bid on it for myself I would have put in a bid of £50-60. A nice coin and worth the price in my opinion. Not one you will find everyday in your change.
  22. Has anyone heard of this type: http://www.coinsgb.com/George_V/Mule-1923-Florin.html and can you give me an idea of scarcity or past sales etc. Many thanks
  23. I'm just home. It had a blue stain dipped it in acetone which removed it (must have been PVC residue). Here's the pictures: I don't own a Davies but have ordered one from Rob. Any opinions of variety?
  24. Sellers picture: http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=218798&ppid=1122ℑ=395928174&images=395928182,395928174&formats=0,0&format=0 In my defence it was getting late when I bid on it last night. It also appears to have some blue? staining. Possibly PVC residue. I'll need to give it a dip in acetone when it arrives.
  25. The sellers image isn't very clear. I've just enlarged the area and it now appears as if it isn't the rarer variety. Oh well
