  1. I believe at one stage you could order the case along with the coins, before that I believe they were third party made. Some of the larger cases would hold multiple sets.
  2. It's a sorry state of afairs but Trump has too many admirers. You make think he has an orange tan but it's really the reflection of the sun shining out from his a@se
  3. Maundy sets are presented in small leather pouches. Any cases are after market, some offered by jewellers. Set is not really a correct way to describe the coins as issued as the denomination mix varied, you didn't equal numbers of each denomination.
  4. Over the last few months I have been recording my collection. Shortly before leaving my previous employer I had put my entire collection under the inspection microscope and photographed them. Although the resolutuion is great the end results have been mixed in that the colours have come out understated and many of the proofs show a flat field where it should be mirrored. Another problem has been that some coins have taken a purple ting which I believe is a fault on the file saving process. Anyway I was made redundent so I'm unable to repeat any of the picture. Anyway for what it's worth here it is. https://onedrive.live.com/?id=943941AD323D5647!135&cid=943941AD323D5647
  5. Yes I much prefer an altered day that's had a bit of love put into it than a chinese fake.
  6. I used turbocad for the grid then saved a a jpg.
  7. I must say I like the Colin Cooke idea, really don't like the idea of having to wind them through ebay. Didn't someone from CC used to frequent the board at one time.
  8. Ok so many have had a look. Photos of plate sized coins does not give the best impression and makes one wonder if they are really of good enough/desirable quality. That aside I'm comming up to retirement so it's time to sell and start the next adventure. I would prefer to shift the whole collection in one go. Is the collection good enough to get one of the auction houses involve. What other options are there. Thoughts and opinions please.
  9. Just looking for the broken tooth they should be easy to spot in any grade.
  10. My sunday best watch is what my father gave to me. It's a 1970s 18k Eterna Matic self wind.
  11. For day to day use I have a Rado Florence that my wife bought me for my 50th birthday. She purchesed is from the Abu Dhabi duty free when we were passing through that way. Not seen this model over here to my have been only available in the middle east. A couple of years age my wife's cousin was visiting from California and she gave me this, I call it my drug dealer watch. It weighs all of 600g.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

The buyer says fair condition, being a bit generous I would say.
  14. I've always looked on Lockdales as being a bit of a provincial auction house, definitely second tier.
  15. I bought it from London Coins some years ago. Not cheap but I think it must have been a quiet day. I paid just over £1200, would be nice to think it has gone up a bit since. If I recall I was the only bidder and had to up my bid to make the reserve.
  16. 1951 Proof Shilling fixed. 🙂
  17. Freemans 176 now fixed.
  18. Thanks I'll fix it in the morning, it's gratifying that people are look that closely.
  19. I've fixed the 1922 shilling now. The original photos are 6MB bit files but to get the whole collection onto Onedrive I had to crop and JPG them.
  20. I would suggest that the big melt would have completely distorted rarity figures. A large number were removed before the melt so a lot of the big mintages may now be rarer than the pre melt rarities.
  21. My wife is from rural Philippines and we have been married for about 22 years now so I have seen charities from both ends. I would suggest the biggest problem with western charities is their naivety, they think western not local. Three cases relating to the Philippines, water, in our local village the government sponsored the installation of a village water system. The problem was it didn't cover the whole village and didn't have enough pumping or storage capacity. Now this could have been for several reasons, not enough money, poor design or quite likely too much money syphoned from the project by local officials. The households that received the water then paid a monthly fixed sum plus and amount per litre. Because of the insufficient supply water was rotated by area,It was a bummer if your water was only on at 3am in the morning for a couple of hours, everyone filled buckets and drums when it was on. If they had just left in on it would all have sorted it,s selt out but for a lack of logical thinking. Anyway the pump needed maintenace but the money collected had been spent by the group of villagers charged with running the supply, so it all stopped and left to rot. We have a deep well and now supply about 40 house in our location. We charge but really only enough to pay the electricity for the pump plus a bit for maintence, we put up a 3000 litre water tower when visiting last March/April. Everyone is happy to get some water, it's not perfect but better than nothing. The problem is getting the monthly dues, it's about on average about £2 per month. There attitude is we have your water but why should we give you our money as you are a rich foriegner so you don't need it. It's the family running it not me but there is always the association. Another example, the charity worldvison is very active in the Philippines, they collect funds which they buy school supplies and distribute to the poorer families. It is my belief that the local infrastructure is run by locals and each year the children where getting less and less, just a few pencils and a notepad. Apprently the locals on the ground were making loans to each other with the money rather than spending it on school supplies, only buying the minimum to look like they were forfilling their remit. Of course non of these loans are ever repaid. Finally the super typhone that wrecked the city of Tacloban. Millions in aid went into the country, very little of it reached the island of Layte, a lot of the packaged western goods could be found in the markets of Manila and poor quality local goods forwarded. Local officials in Leyte were living high and profiteering was rife. So unless the charity can control the whole food chain from hand to mouth they will be taken for all they can give.
