    INTERESTING DAY YESTERDAY....

yo! went to the historic dockyards down at Portsmouth yesterday....saw the Mary Rose.....it blew my brains out. remember watching it being raised on tv back when i was a nipper....apart from all the obvious stuff, stunning cannons with flint-filled cartridges (brutal), skulls with arrow holes in the top, weapons, clothing, personalised carved bowls, surgery tools, yew bows etc etc the things that really hit me were going out into the top level and the smell hitting me....gorgeous.....and there was a tile that was salvaged that had a dog pawprint in it.....500 years ago the tilemakers dog stepped into this one whilst being made and it was still fired and then found its way onto the rose....dunno why, but it just fried me head. anyway....of course there were some outstanding coins, many in gold from the pursers chest/room.....seems he was also a numismatist lolol....one of the coins dated 60 years earlier and there were also foreign examples...the silver ones were mainly lumped to gether but the gold was of course pretty much untouched. so.....y'all get there....the way theyve got it displayed is staggering....you will not be disapponted!! and added to that the antiques shop which is based there is mindblowing....old flintlocks, samurai swords, an array of fairbairn sykes originals, masses of medals and old toys from my youth, clocks, books, ship navigation pieces, jade, ancient coins, paintings etc..... and then later....i was given a load of coins....got a bit excited initially as one seemed to be a 1788 spade half but it felt too light and sure enough was a peverell once i researched....but also an old nuremburg jeton....1807 penny....1723 irish ha'penny...1853 penny, all very nice....various other copper and a ton of threepences, sixpences, farthings etc plus some nice unc decimal stuff including first 2 pound coin, five pound coins etc etc....and a bag of foreign coins from just about everywhere...usa to hong kong to 1st and 2nd ww german, europe, singapore, malaysia, russia etc.... so...a good all-round day of coins and general chocolately-goodness!!! booyakasha! prep

hi pwa....thread hijack coming up but i'm sure brother wild wont mind in this case....i'm a leathersmith and knifemaker..... bushcraft....youve heard of ray mears?.....(and please at this point DO NOT SAY BEAR GRYLLS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!! OR I'LL QUIT THE FORUM)....the art of living in harmony with nature pretty much sums it up i guess.....shelter building, plant identification and use, fire making, navigation etc etc..... prepping....bit trickier.....similar to bushcraft but embracing 'survival' situations more and unfortunately full of weirdos....doomsday armageddon end of the world and all that....however with a lot of sense to it too....like....what would you do if the national grid went down..... so yeah i'm into both sides.....my heart is that of a bushcrafter but my brain is that of a prepper.....i've got enough military gear to provide sleeping bags, gas masks, wool blankets, cooking equipment, knives, guns, food, water purification and so on for everyone on here to survive for 94 years, whilst listening to old skool rave on vinyl even if a nuclear bomb landed on our heads but the thing that fills me full of happiness is going out into a nice bit of ancient woodland, foraging a lovely bit of spalted beech and then spending a few hours fashioning a spoon out of it whilst classical plays on one of my technics 1210's....lololol making sense?...i would put my website up but dunno if i'll get told off.... p

    A Quick Hello

just wanted to say a quick hiya....seems i've already bought from a couple of you from ebay which is now worrying me because you all warn against doing that lol....at least i now know where i can get hold of you if i've any problems!! and i've been chuckling at wildcamper....nice to know i'm not the only mad outdoorsman on here! been getting into my old british pennies and flapping about cleaning/storing/grading/fakes etc....in fact every level of collecting is so stressful i'm on the point of giving up before i've started....but i've found a lot of stuff on here already thats been very informative and interesting too, so thankyou guys.... i dabbled a bit in various collections of stuff when younger (boy do i wish i still had it all...medals, banknotes, sovereigns) but in recent years its been mainly old singer 201 sewing machines....i've got 21 of them now and as far as i know every permutation so its time to start working on a nice collection of british coins to leave for my sons.... keep up the good work and i'll try my hardest to be a total pain in the butt and drive you all nuts with stupid questions and newbie errors!! i've got several coins here already that i'm having doubts about....i guess its good that in just a short time i've already learned enough to realise how stupid i've already been lol! regards! hi....both ideas very snazzy-looking but.....maybe i'm missing something.... i used to be a post office postmaster....it was only a small post office but even so i regularly got bags and bags of brand new coins delivered to me in the weekly cash delivery.....no need to polish....new coins can be gotten easily from any p.o. or bank no?.... and when i was a nipper i was a doorman...i reckon that guys 5 years of collecting bottle tops were generated weekly in the club where i worked....surely just asking round your local boozers would save a bit o'time.... anyway....nice to meet you camper from a fellow outdoorsman....good luck with the project....go with the pennies dude....as i'm sure you know you can get huge lots of them on ''that online website'' for very little outlay along with a huge tin of brasso........(am i allowed to say brasso on here?) lol! prep
