elf1965 Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Hi,I have a coin that has the Star of David on it (could this be Jewish?) I would be very interested to know more about, I would much appreciate it, thanks. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 I think it's most likely North African, and most likely not as old as it looks...Owing to the fact that modern minting equipment didn't reach a lot of the world until about the late 1800's. Not my area though. Quote
kuhli Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Chris is spot on with it being North African, in particular from Morocco. Dated 1283, which is 1855/1856 on our calendar. The denomination is dependent on the size of the coin, either a 1, 2, or 3 falus coin.falus = 17mm2 falus = 21-24mm3 falus = 26-29mmNothing extremely rare, worth anywhere from US$2-5 for a decent example. With the clip on your specimen, I would say to expect the low end ($2-2.50) for yours. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 I thought I'd give you the glory of mentioning Morocco Kuhli Those things are very popular email questions because they look old, have an old date on them (in arabic) and a Jewish star for some reason. Quote
