davidrj Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Help on this one please, I think this is Edward III, tall crown, annulet stops+ EDWARDVS ° REX ° ANGLI / CIVITAS LONDONNearest I can find is Spink 1630 for York - a mule?? David Edited July 30, 2014 by davidrj Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 A quick look makes me think it's a Pre-Treaty Series E. Appears to have unbarred Ns and the obverse ends in II instead of LI. So this would be a variety of Spink 1586. Quote
davidrj Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Thanks, the descriptions in my Spink (2007) are very confusing for EdIII, "with French title" confused me, I assume that's just for the groats? Is there an online reference for EdIII? The UKDFD pages are excellent for the long cross and early eddies Quote

The smaller denominations just don't have the space for a complete legend. As for online reference, not that I know of. A copy of North Volume II will help if you're seriously considering collecting late medieval hammered issues. Here is a reasonably-priced used copy. Quote
