Guest Tony Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Hello-I am not a serious collector, but have a few coins. One of them is a 1788 1/2 penny. What is it, coin or token? It is a proof 64.ThanksTony (USA) Quote
Chris Perkins Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 From that date it's probably a token. What does it say on it? Who graded it PR64? Quote
Guest Tony Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Hello-It has a seated figure facing left on the back, with "BRITANNIA." above it. The date "1788." is below the figure. On the front, there is a right facing portrait, with the inscription "GEORGIUS III. D. G. REX."Graded "1788 GB 1/2P P-1016 PF 64" by NGC of America.(no mention of token)Is there any history behind this type of coin?Thank youTony Quote
Chris Perkins Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 The P1016 means it's Peck 1016, a restrike pattern 1788 Halfpenny by Droz. Peck says it's 'Very Rare'. Certainly something i'd like to purchase Tony. Quote
Sylvester Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Oh i'm afraid the number meant nothing to me.But those Droz patterns get around don't they, they have sixpence ones too. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Yes, there are lots of different Droz patterns, this P1016 is a restrike, I believe by Taylor just having a quick glance without paying too much attention in my Peck. Quote
Guest Tony Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Hello again-I can post a photo, but how do I do that?At this time, my inquiries are mostly curiosity. I have not thought about selling. It is my only GB coin.I have a few other European coins which are probably not of any significance or value. Maybe I will make a list when I get a chance. Quote
