Half Penny Jon Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 I bet that it will go over £4000. Quote
custard1966 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Colin Cooke had one for sale a few months ago. It was slabbed and reckoned to be one of the finest two available. He didn't list a price for it, but it sold pretty quickly Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 10, 2004 Author Posted September 10, 2004 Yes, I saw that, it was heavily toned with hints of lustre however they still slabbed it MS65 RD! Rather than RB. Quote
Coppers Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Yes, I saw that, it was heavily toned with hints of lustre however they still slabbed it MS65 RD! Rather than RB. Jon... Some time ago, I had heard that this particular coin had once one of the finest known, but that in a misguided attempt to improve upon nature, it had been turned into an unnatural looking orange, then subsequently slabbed MS-65 Red by NGC. Any possibility that the toning occured after it was slabbed? Quote
Coppers Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Here is the first UNC 1827 penny to come onto the market for ages:PennyThis auction ended early with the comment that the item was no longer available for sale. Did the same thing happen earlier with an 1869 Penny that Dragonbrit had up for auction on ebay? Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 11, 2004 Author Posted September 11, 2004 No it didn't, it didn't sell! I think that the seller was asking a bit too much. Quote
