Guest Mieke Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hi , I have come across across about 30 odd pre decimal coins. How can I find out their worth. The oldest is a 1895 Half Crown and various penny's dating from 1917 to 1952 Also Half penny's from 1920 on. Can some-one advise me. Thank you in anticipation, Mieke Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Do you have a 1952 penny!? If so, could you post a picture please? Quote
Coppers Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Jon...I hope you are not being overly optimistic Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I doubt if it is genuine if he has one! Quote
Sylvester Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Why what's special about a 1952 penny? Quote
Sylvester Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I knew about the 1954 penny. The 1952 had escaped my notice. Quote

Thank you in anticipation, MiekeThe 1952 penny has a kangaroo on one side and the head of King Georg1V on the reverse. I feel as if you were all having some fun with me. I take it that a British 1952 penny is very rare but I gather what I have is an Australian penny. How do I tell the differance between the British coins and the Australian ones? Regards from Aussie Mieke (Miss) Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Yes, it is an australian penny-we weren't having fun with you honest. Quote
Master Jmd Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 i thought that all clonial british coinage had the country's name on it...i must be wrong...if it has an austrailian animal on it then it is from austrailia... Quote

Chris Perkins Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I've beaten Chris' post count? Wow! In a way I'm shocked because it means Sylvester is now the main contributor, and therefore sadder than me ;-) But I'm also pleased, because it proves that the forum has grown beyond just my silly points of views and has become well and truly shaped by its members. 1 Quote

Your spelling and puntuation is certainly of a very acceptable and clear standard (mostly!) which is more than can be said for some contributors! I'm no English professor, but that seems to get more and more important to me for some reason. Quote

Sometimes i get myself muddled up a bit. Hopefully though my spelling and Grammar should be acceptable for the most part. I do afterall have a A-Level in English Language.Unfortunately i don't have an A-Level in typing and thus i often miss letters out or put extra letters where they should not be. Quote
