scott Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 (edited) Never seen anything like this before. 2 or 3 oddities at least on the reverse alone.the C is joined but that is a die issue, others look clearly like wrong letters overstruck with correct ones.HIB for example. has 2, dunno what the H is obver but the B is over an R or an X. If you are a serious collector, you will know there are many error readings on Shillings and Sixpences in this reign. I think a possible explaination is that the letters have become mis-shapen due to heavy use of the dies. They may be flawed. The mint letter C certainly has a die crack, but are any of the others overstruck?Any serious collector will have seen the same thing on Farthings, particularly those of George I where many mis-shapen letters are found.
