Guest Cliff Smith Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I have a what I presume to be a Queen Victoria Anniversary Coin it is a double headed silver coin the same size as our 2p piece on one side the Queens head with the Bun Hair style and 1837 and on the other side the head as the 1901 penny with the words VICTORIA ANNVM REGN SEXAGESIVM Going round the edge of the coin There are othe words as well but some of these are a little worn. Any information would be welcome as I have not been able to find any info on this coin anywhere Quote
Sylvester Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Going just on the wording i'd say its a sixtieth anniversary coin 1837-1897. Other than that i've no idea, it's not my area. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 (edited) I've got one of those! Sylvster's right, its a diamond jubilee medallion. They were origionally struck as matte proofs (had a frosty appearance). They also exist in gold and bronze. Value wise, its a bit sketchy, I've seen them for sale from £4 to £100 in Uncirculated (no wear or damage). They would have also come in a red presentation box, which will increase their value. Chris Perkins Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I sold a nice one once for £15.00, the silver approx 2cm type. You're right though, in worn sub EF conditions they can be picked up for not much more than silver value. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I have the 2cm one but there is a larger version for each metal. Quote
