1982 twenty pence double 82 documented ?

I have a circulated 1982 twenty pence which seems to have a double 82 of 1982.

What could this be? Has this been recorded before? I was thinking it was just excess metal but the shapes appear too round..

The coin is quite worn having been in circulation so I don't know if this happens as the top metal wears down??

Unfortunately it does not appear very well in scan so I have not included a pic. But can be seen under magnifier the other 8and two is to the right and appears less raised.

Any idea guys???

My error seems to effect the 82 and the edge of right leaf and edge of pattern to the right around rose. I wonder if yours is similar???

Could you post a pic. I have posted this on the other forum too to see if senior members can give advice...

I suppose there may be more around in better condition...

That looks more like die doubling, because as you say parts of the design are also doubled. I beieve this can happen when part of the press works loose, and so the die "chatters" as the coin is struck.
